Recreating the missing post “Fill the toy Tree for Christmas”

Happy New Year to all who follow MARS, our Florida based parrot rescue.
Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, EIN 80-0161378 was founded in 2008. Now entering into our 17th year, and just as determined as ever to better the lives of parrots in captivity.

The purpose of our almost annual fill the toy tree for Christmas drive is for the enrichment of the parrots who come through our doors. Teaching them to play and not rely solely on humans for all their entertainments is critical to having well adjusted birds as pets. This is true I am sure you would agree for all pets. Although, we humans can be most entertaining to these amazing feathered ones, the importance of self play can never be stressed enough.

With all that said, very happy to share that our drive was relatively successful. We were fortunate to order, with so many of you donating dollars, pounds of toys for the parrots and even the ones we call the termites have happy busy beaks. Remember we order wholesale so lots more toys for the dollars donated.

Again, thank you to all of you and please remember us all year long. Rescue is and always will be an ongoing commitment made possible with your continued generosity. Thank you for reading.

Once a year we celebrate our very own Night Blooming Cereus

Bloomed a bit early this year, very surprised to see this happen. Non the less always spectacular to behold.

Just a beautiful way to end the night and start the morning

Cody steps up to the scale, what a good boy.

Cody, the little Blue Crown Conure certainly appears to be up for the weight loss program his owner has laid out for him.

We were certainly skeptical as you can imagine if he would or would not do so. Just knowing his little life hung in the balance was difficult knowing. Now add to that, needing the continuous cooperation to achieve this goal from a bird. We could only hope and pray it was possible.

In addition you can ask yourself as we did. Is such drastic weight loss feasible? Now please make a mental note of this fact, weight loss can not be achieved to fast. That is also life threatening.

The proof you see here is in the video.
We will share very soon the symptoms noticed by the owner on our next blog post. Just out of time now to do so Thanks for following our story.

Let there be DRAMA, bird drama that is.

  • My “Web Master” Marc,  has given me a new way to share stories  and pictures and links of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary , which I am hoping will allow me to be more creative and visual with my posts and not so afraid of screwing everything up when I do so. However, all ready I have erred, by creating a run on sentence. Oh well!

My all to brief Christmas get a way to Asheville, where we all converged to celebrate the season allowed me a chance to be tutored by Marc and hopefull retain some of the vast amounts of information he shared with me.

  • From using this venue to do posts,  to using Instagram for attracting followers to our cause,  to direct postings to our  MARS you tube and so on. You get the idea. Increasing our followers and our viewers to our Florida Parrot Rescue MARS website is also needed for 2016.
  • Now if I can just figure out how to do simple paragraphs without bullets and numbers then I suppose I will have it down. Perhaps I will try a picture right now and then get really brave and start posting adoptable birds right here as well. Wish me luck!! Cause I sure need it. ps I miss Christmas decorations already.
  • And the picture of wine is just for fun. Right Janey?

Our annual fill the Christmas Tree Toy Drive is coming to a close.

This year we are excited to say we have raised $675.00 from our  Facebook posting toward our annual “Fill the Christmas Tree Toy Drive”. Four very generous donors helped us get this far and we are so very grateful to them for doing so.

Now here is the reason for this post so late in the toy fund drive. All here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary are wondering if our supporters who receive  our web page feed, or simply follow our blog posts which sorry to say are few and far between, might just be able to help us reach our goal of  an additional 200.00 more so we can place our toy order ASAP……

We know this is last minute but as always we need all of your help to continue doing what we do here at M.A.R.S..

So if any of you can find it in your heart to donate at this wonderful time of the year  we can safely say you have helped  keep a whole lot of  parrots very quiet and happy for many months to come. At least three or four that is……

Donations can be made right here through our web page by simply clicking on the donate button.  And as I always say you will have made many beaks here at our  Florida based Parrot Rescue very very happy indeed.

Happy Holidays everyone and a very Merry Christmas to all.
