Parrot Adoption

Jan 08 2023

What to do when an adoptee comes back into our rescue.

Sidney Rose is an amazing bird by anyones standards. Sidney Rose is an Umbrella Cockatoo.
She is loving, joyful and most of the time a happy peek a boo saying kind of girl who also loves to sing. She sings very off key ahhhh that’s very off key.
We love Sidney Rose. We had such high hopes that she found her forever home once again. But it was just not in the cards for her.
Please know the adopter tried everything to make it work. There were multiple discussions about trying all sorts of hopeful solutions. None worked. It was sadly not a good fit.

Dexter the Caique, adopted from M.A.R.S., happy family happy bird.

This is one of those adoptions where everything just fit together just right. They already had a Caique and were considering another as a new family member and a friend for their existing bird.

As a no fault adoption rescue, if it had not worked out, Dexter would have been returned and they would  have been able to  try another bird.

Thankfully the adoption worked, and happy endings are what we here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary strive for.

Please remember us and donate to our exotic bird rescue organization when you can. We are a registered non profit EIN 80-0161378. As I always say  “M.A.R.S. needs all your help, to continue helping all exotics who come our way”. This is no easy endeavor and all of you can play a major role in helping adoptable exotic birds find safe, loving and enriching new homes.

All toys are not created equal, artistically speaking that is.

Believe it or not, the toy you see pictured here was envisioned and assembled by a friend of M.A.R.S. named Bonnie.

The treasure trove of wooden objects used in creating this wooden masterpiece were all part of an Estate sale featured locally by Southern Trading Company.

The entire contents of the place was for sale and there were boxes and boxes of unfinished wooden items as you see pictured here.

Only through the eyes of a very creative person could all those parts and pieces turn into a bird toy such as this one pictured.

Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary wants to send out a big THANK-YOU to Bonnie. Please know that all the parrots that reside here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. will have a great time getting their beaks on a piece of this amazing creation. Of course pictures of this will appear in another blog in the near future.

We always ask you to remember a donation to our cause continues to help us to help all of them. Adoption is the only way to go. So many exotic birds, from Cockatoos and Macaws to Amazons and Conures and Quakers and so many other species are waiting in rescues all over the country for someone just like you to provide a loving home.

Visit our parrot rescue when you can but be sure to check our open days of operation posted on our Facebook.com/marsparrots page. Weather and volunteer ability are the deciding factors. You can also e-mail marsparrots@aol.com or use the contact form right here on our official site marsparrots.org.

Louisa, small bird with a very large personality.

This amazing little cupcake of a bird, no larger then a bird cup herself, packs as much personality into her small package as any parrot I have ever encountered.

Louisa is her name, an African Senegal parrot is her species.

I am happy to report to all that Louisa found her forever home this past Friday.

Always willing to supervise a job no matter what the job entailed, Louisa was ever present here at M.A.R.S.. She had her eyes on almost everything at all times. Never one to be left out of the loop.

Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary was greatful for the chance to try and find Louisa a new home. At times it seemed that no one wanted to give her a chance. Senegals sometimes, it seems, are known for being a bit trying as pets, and we have had a few of those here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..

To all of those who have adopted from a rescue and all those who are considering doing do we salute you. They all deserve a second chance, and we must continue to facilitate this process. There are so many in need, and the right bird in the right home is an amazing experience.

Remember also that we board birds, so if occasionally, when you need a break or get-a-way we are a safe and fun facility for your bird to come and spend some time.

To all who read this, remember too, that we are a public supported charity and it is with your continued donations and support that we can keep helping all of them who need our voices and our care while trying to find their new forever homes.

The sound of breaking glass, frankly my dear I don’t give a hoot!!!

Very early in the morning, just before sunrise, in that rapid dream state of sleep, the unexpected crash and sound of breaking glass can awaken you with such a jolt. That darn cat was my first thought.

Up I jumped and all around I looked. Cat number one is quietly sleeping, not disturbed at all by the noise and cat number two is outside the kitchen door, in his usual morning place asking to be let inside for breakfast.

So what on earth made such a ruckus? Searching everywhere, literally high and low, the culpret finally came into view.

Look very closly, and you will see the Screech Owl on the basket staring back at me.

I went into my bird mode, using all the tricks that I have learned here at M.A.R.S. to retreive a wayward bird, and there are so many to share. However I should perhaps  post another blog on that someday.

Around and around this Raptor flew, out of my reach and me finally out of breath. So I gave up, opened all the windows and doors, and yes you guessed it, out the door he flew. Glad to be free from his nights captivity. ( Picture would not load, new camera not cooperating)

Please check out the continuation of this story with pictures on our facebook site Facebook.com/marsparrots, or Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S..

Thank-you for reading and I always have to say a DONATION to our cause helps us to help all of them.  Not the Screech Owls, the parrots of course, who reside here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.
