In this case, that saying could not be truer. Cody a sweet, happy and totally adorable Blue Crown Conure needed a major change in his dietary habits.
Cody was recently diagnosed by our vet as morbidly obese. When you are told as an owner that your bird has boobs, you better immediately step up to the plate or scale in this case. There is no doubt at all that a life or death situation is facing this awesome little bird named Cody.
We are looking forward to learning how this all began with Cody and going on this weight loss journey with him

The bottle or the ball? Jack the lorikeet makes a mixed decision.
Sometimes here at MARS our Florida based Parrot rescue, you simply have to stop and smell the roses as they say. In this case it is playing ball with and Lorikeet named Jack.
Ziggy an Umbrella Cockatoo heard the noise and decided to attempt to join in. Although Jack tried to coax her to play the activity was to new to her to grasp the concept of playing ball.
Exotic birds have different responses to new activities but I am convinced Jack who is an awesome ball player (when a bottle is not offered) will be a good teacher for Ziggy to learn this new way to play.
Thanks for reading and watching from all here at MELBOURNE AVIAN RESCUESANCTUARY.
Let there be DRAMA, bird drama that is.
- My “Web Master” Marc,  has given me a new way to share stories  and pictures and links of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary , which I am hoping will allow me to be more creative and visual with my posts and not so afraid of screwing everything up when I do so. However, all ready I have erred, by creating a run on sentence. Oh well!
My all to brief Christmas get a way to Asheville, where we all converged to celebrate the season allowed me a chance to be tutored by Marc and hopefull retain some of the vast amounts of information he shared with me.
- From using this venue to do posts,  to using Instagram for attracting followers to our cause,  to direct postings to our  MARS you tube and so on. You get the idea. Increasing our followers and our viewers to our Florida Parrot Rescue MARS website is also needed for 2016.
- Now if I can just figure out how to do simple paragraphs without bullets and numbers then I suppose I will have it down. Perhaps I will try a picture right now and then get really brave and start posting adoptable birds right here as well. Wish me luck!! Cause I sure need it. ps I miss Christmas decorations already.
- And the picture of wine is just for fun. Right Janey?

M.A.R.S. is in Space Coast Living Magazine.
Unfortunately as my computer skills are limited I can only hope this link takes you to the magazines site. I can honestly say this article was something we had hoped would happen for a very long time. M.A.R.S. As you all know by now is the short version for Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary our exotic bird rescue located on Florida’s Space Coast. We are always seeking ways to get the word out of our organization but lack the funds to promote all the work we do and programs we offer here at the rescue. Having a page featured in a magazine such as Space Coast Living will certainly aide us in reaching a far larger audience and we so thank them for this chance to do so. Â As those that follow our Facebook page know this article is also a bit bittersweet as it is the last photos taken of our beautiful Blue and Gold Macaw Woody and her life long partner Paco. Â Woody passed away shortly after these photos were taken. As always all here at our Florida Parrot Rescue MARS want to thank all of you for your continued support of our cause and for reading this posting.
This is the look of grief only a bird can convey to a human that understands
Today Paco’s best friend, lifetime mate and one of my original birds from the 70’s died. It was this morning and as I was working all around the property I got to see her before she passed and I also got  to give her a banana cookie which she took and happily ate.
Her name was Woody she was a B&G macaw and as most birds from so long ago she was a wild caught girl. She lived a full life filled with semi freedom a loving mate and really good care till there was just nothing more to be done for her. She knew what it was like to raise her own children and remember when I say this it was a long time ago before we all knew what it was like to see such numbers of birds coming into rescues nation wide. She had a really good life for a bird in captivity. We should all be so blessed and so loved. RIP Woody my girl you will always be in my heart and in Paco’s too. In loving memory I will post more but I am just to sad to do so now.
Thank you for reading and please know all of us here at MARS, Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary our Florida Parrot Rescue thank you for following us and supporting us when you can do so. They all deserve happy lives and it is our mission to do just that for them. ALWAYS!!!!
