exotic bird rescue

Get out the flannel sheets, the wool jacket and gloves.

chilly weatherYep!!!! believe it or not this is for the inside of the house. Temperature reading outside is 35 degrees.

Now I certainly know for the rest of the country this can be considered pretty much mild temp wise, but here in the Sunshine State we haven’t experienced but one or two really cold nights up until now.

So what better way to heat up a cold house and warm up some amazing avians, and one chilled to the bone bird caretaker??

Of course french toast cooked very slowly on a gas stove.

All the outside birds were brought in last night even though they can easily take these temps as they have boxes to get in and ways to keep warm. But why not give them a change of scenery too. We had boarders and Birdy Boot Camp birds go home yesterday so cages were available to use for them. Now mind you this in itself causes a lot of ruckus among the rest of the crew.

Skipper and Daqueri who have been in and out of M.A.R.S. for years, are well known by many who frequent our rescue and sanctuary. They are, put simply, trouble makers. When they enter a room all he.. breaks loose. Fortunately after strategically placing a few blankets and comforters to block the view of them from some of the very agitated birds, all soon became quiet once again.

Again, all here at M.A.R.S.,thank all of you who read our blog and continue to keep up with all the goings on at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. It is never very dull for very long, and we only wish there was more time to share more stories with you. Lately raising funds to keep going has been our focus. And that in itself is story waiting to be told.

More soon from M.A.R.S.. Please think of us – and consider a donation or become a M.A.R.S. member. We need your help to continue all we do to help all the avians. And do not forget to check out our Facebook page for more info and pictures.

What does one Rescue called M.A.R.S., + Volunteers + Donations add up to?

It adds up to the perfect formula for a well run, very successful fundraiser to benefit our exotic bird rescue known as M.A.R.S..

Anyone who has ever run their own yard or garage sale knows full well, the effort and preparation necessary to pull off a really good and well staged one, is staggering to say the least.

We are happy to say, this sale was the best one we’ve ever had at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Please know, that is saying alot, as we’ve put on some amazing sales here at the rescue to raise funds for M.A.R.S. parrots in the past. We invite all of you to visit our older blog posts to view those pictures.

What a simply amazing team of volunteers, and great people donating lots of really good items to sell can accomplish is tantamount to continuing the work we do at M.A.R.S.. Without these funds, helping all the parrots who come into our exotic bird rescue, adoption and rehabilitation sanctuary would not be possible.

Our sincere thanks to all the Volunteers who joined in and gave their time and energy towards making this such a successful endeavor. Please take time to view our pics which we will post on our Facebook page, Facebook.com/marsparrots.

It is also our sincerest hope, that you remember M.A.R.S. when ever a donation to our cause is possible. As always we need all the help we can get to keep helping all of them.

Saturday at M.A.R.S.

Yes finally a quick update to Saturday the 26th. M.a.r.s. will be open as we have finally figured how to be in two places at the same time. Half of the volunteers will open up M.A.R.S. as usual 11:00, and the rest will be headed to Immaculate Conception Catholic Church to get the remains of their rummage sale for at a yard sale here at M.A.R.S. in the near future.

With that said, I am sure a run on sentence, just remember the M.A.R.S. TEAM hopes you join us for Saturday here with the birds, and for all the special events we are planning to attend and have here at M.A.R.S.

As always please remember a donation to our cause when you visit helps us to continue helping all the exotic birds that we can.

Rain, rain go away. M.A.R.S. avians want to come out and play Today Jan. 7th 2013

Here at M.A.R.S. all of  yesterday was spent taking down probably the best Christmas decorating display we have ever had at the rescue. The 12th Night is always when the decorations come down. The D.A.R. Christmas home tour we were included in was the inspiration to go a bit over the top. Note, same stuff we always use with a few new additions,  but after 30 years of collecting it always goes up differently. Anyway this blog should have happened last night.

This week is going to be an interesting one. Right now I only know we are open today Monday the 7th and Saturday the 12th.
Today even looks like 30% rain so bring an umbrella if you visit M.A.R.S.
Here at our exotic bird rescue the parrots actually love the rain so I am sure the Macaws, Cockatoos, Amazons and all the rest who reside here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary will appreciate getting out for a while as we clean the inside bird rooms.
We hope that all who follow our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. had a chance to see our pictures from Saturday the 5th on our facebook page.

Please above all remember, it is only with your donations that our rescue can continue helping all of them to find new forever homes. There are many birds who are waiting for their chance to come into our exotic bird rescue and adoption facility.
Once again, from all of us here at M.A.R.S. have a very happy New Year.
