Your end of the year charitable donations helps M.A.R.S. to help all of them in the New Year.

All here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, ask that with all your hearts you remember us at this time of the year. When it so means the most to us, that your end of the year charitable donations, will allow M.A.R.S. to start the new year knowing that we will have the ability to continue helping the parrots and the people who need us, and count on us to be here for them.

A huge shout out to all our future new supporters, and a heartfelt thanks to those of you who are continuing to do so. Knowing, that you, have seen and understand the need for rescues such as ours to exist and maintain and hopefully grow, means our voice for all of them is being heard.

To all of you from all of us here at our exotic bird rescue simply known as M.A.R.S.. we wish to you and yours a very healthy and happy and wonderful New Year.

Happy beaks for the holidays, time to fill up the toy tree.

IMG_0397 Time once again to fill up the Christmas tree with toys galore for all the parrots who reside here at our exotic bird rescue. Located in Melbourne Beach Florida, Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary better known as M.A.R.S. for the short version is asking all of you to participate in filling up the tree once again. This toy drive was so successful last year because of all of you who made it happen. M.A.R.S. hopes to fill the tree and have enough left over to last for three to possibly four months. Toys keep them happy and busy, and yes the best reason of all “QUIET”.

All monitary donations can be made right here on our website using credit cards and paypal. Of course the old fashion way of mailing a check works just as well, just not as fast. Once we have reached our goal of $500.00, please note our minimum wholesale order needs to be $300.00 to start, then we will order away and fill the tree for all to see.

Thank-you to all who participate in the making of the “Toy Tree” All of us both avian and human thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Yes to all that noticed this is a pic from last year, as I am still dealing with putting away our (over the top) yard sale remains, and well putting up the tree is very time consuming, any volunteers??

Needed to make some changes to our Rescues schedule.

Our apologies but we are no longer open to the public on a regular basis. I realize our web site states four days but that has changed. We are now by appointment only, so please email marsparrots@aol.com for adoption info and for setting up an appointment to adopt or to visit Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Our sincerest thanks The MARS Team.

M.A.R.S. update, Part II (What did happen to Jakers?)

Cockatoo Jake in Tree Now to continue on with the “Bird Drama”from our M.A.R.S. blog of May 15th. Remember, I promised you all there would be some now and agian. Well, we still owe you an ending to that story.

Jakers, as any of you who know him, delights in spending all his time up in the mulberry tree located within the Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary visitor area. (Yes, unfortunately at this time we are still closed to visitors, but working hard on a solution to change that status). This time of the year the mulberry tree is in full foliage and can provide complete camouflage to even a (white) Cockatoo. Jakers more then takes advantage of this fact. He pretty much stays up there all day observing all that happens at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.. At times one is keenly aware that he is commenting or singing, but you always know that he is watching. The exception to this behavior is usually just heading down the branches for treats and water, only to quickly return to the upper parts of the tree where he continues his watchful gaze.

This day was to provide the other exception. From high up as we told you in our last blog, Jake spotted someone who he thought was quite interesting,(our prior adopter) and considering all the commotion happening below, he did come down and join in for a laugh and some playtime with this human. The noise level escalated, it was time to rein it all in. We proceeded to do just that, or so we thought.

Shortly after this, when we noticed Jake was gone, and I had done (the Lu thing), we were all looking around for him and heard laughter. It was coming from a cage. Our visitor, had mistaken Jakers for Dusty, and placed him there. What makes this even better is that Jake never allows anyone to cage him easily, to Jake this means a bath and he absolutely hates baths. So upon our discovery of the mistaken identity of the caged bird, Jakers proceeded to let out a most gleeful laugh, followed by all the rest of us doing exactly the same thing.

Never, ever, dull here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Please stay tuned for our updates and follow us on this blog and our facebook.com/marsparrots page. We so appreciate all who do so, and remember also to tell all your friends to do so and hopefulll they will hit the like our page button.

M.A.R.S. updates are now hopefully on a set schedule? Sign up to see!

Cockatoo-KeifferFlorida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. that we are trying to bring our stories and “yes some M.A.R.S. drama”, bird related that is, to all of you on a more regular basis.

Now if any of you think that is going to be an easy task, well then just think again !!!!!

Yesterday was a good example. Three appointments were set for the day. Parrots were all out. Two volunteers were on deck, David, aka “Red Legs Greaves” and Caleb, oh, and me of course (Lu)

Our clean up routine for this Wednesday we decided, would be a bit less then our usual routine. Realizing now that some avians actually like a little mess to come back inside to, yes I said mess, that of course does not include dirt or poop or spoiled food. For example, our resident Jakers who spent most of his inside time on Tuesday making the perfect windows in his box, then normally, having to do it all over again. He actually laughed when he went back inside, which got the other adoptable birds here at our Florida parrot adoption and rescue sanctuary laughing or imitating laughter and best of all, no screeming came from Jakers, or suprisingly any one else on this day which was an absolute miracle. Silence, as I always say means happy birds, and a very happy Director.

So let’s get back to the day at hand, and another Jakers story, since as he would like, it was all about him this day. A M.A.R.S.visitor was given permission to play with as many Cockatoos or other birds as he liked, he had previously adopted, it did not work out and he was now looking for a better fit. Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, has a no fault adoption policy. At some point Jake had come down from his tree to get in on the action, lots of playing going on. Ozzie running around like a crazy bird, Karma climbing up to Jakes tree, Big Bird heading up the tree, Stubbs yelling because Big Bird is heading up there. Keiffer yelling cause he wants to play with Oz. You get the idea. I look up and relize Jake is nowhere visible, not even high up in his tree. I do a Lu. Yep, my volunteers know this one. “STOP everything, let’s all look for Jake”, over the fence, out front, just find him please!!!!! BIRD drama just like I promised.

Want to know the ending?? If it was a happy one or not?? Should I make you wait to find out………………..? YES, Part II soon.
