Fundraising with an upscale yet casual flair. August 18th 2013. “Parrots in Paradise”

What does delicious food, tasty beverages and amazing music all add up to??? A Sunday afternoon fundraiser at Davids’ Steak and Seafood, 302 Ocean Avenue right here in Melbourne Beach. The date August 18th. The time 1:00 to 4:00.

This wine, appetizer and music filled venue will benefit  M.A.R.S. (Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary).

There will be  live music featuring Chuck Van Riper. A silent auction and 50/50 raffle.

The dates are the 17th and the 18th of May. That is this coming Friday and Saturday. The times 8:00 and on to????? No early birds please!!!

 

We are still accepting donations of items for resale. Call 321 725 8800 for pick-ups or e-mail marsparrots@aol.com for more how to info. We are still in need of a large tent 20 x40 would be perfect. We have 10×10’s but if it rains things do get wet including all of our shoppers.

Changes are a good thing…???

Sometimes, most of the time, when there is little to no financial help and no one seems to care, something amazing can happen.This was, and is exactly how it unfolded.IMG_0028IMG_0027

These are the remains of the aviaries  pictured here. They became unrepairable and unsafe for the parrots who lived in them. In addition, anyone who follows our parrot rescue M.A.R.S.,  knows the squirrels were making our feed bills exorbitant.

We tried to raise funds on our face book  page, and applied for three grants, with three turn downs.  All of these avenues failed . Funding did not come our way. So, with that said, time to pray hard and get creative, and be practical in our endeavors.

Creative, came from the minds of Richard and Taylor Carr.  The practical application, well, it simply showed itself to us. We saved and used one of two roof  tops that were still in fair condition. Saved as much of the fencing material, plastic siding and wire from on the original aviaries that could be used as well..  Richard, and Taylor IMG_0031set to it and designed and constructed this unit.

We will build more of these units in the future as funding shows itself.

Whenever we get the chance here at our Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S., we like to let birds see their own species and watch how it unfolds.

Such was the case yesterday when recently adopted Sassafrass,(Samson now), came for a play day.

Of course we are all very watchful. Making sure it goes well. We’ve learned, some birds just plain do not like each other, so a watchful eye is a necessity.

Our newest Macaw to Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, Sweetie would have nothing to do with any of them except from the safety of his cage. This is as good of a start as we could have hoped for. We have a real challenge on our hands with Sweetie.

M.A.R.S. has been busy, and we need some extra help.

yard saleThat is the understated truth. We have the ability to get an array of amazing items for our yard sales which will include everything from jewelry to furniture. This we hope will be on a semi regular basis.

We now find ourselves in need of a place to store items, mark for sale and then you guessed it, get it all ready to set up one of our now famous yard sales to raise money for Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary.

Pictures will be posted ahead of time for you to view the many items that will be available for sale.

If you know of a storage area or can make any suggestions for this now pending issue then please e-mail marsparrots@aol.com and share any info concerning this specific issue.

M.A.R.S. will also be researching local possibilities as they show themselves.

Today, Sunday the 17th will be the start of our first pick-up We will get all items organized at the site for this purpose, and then see where we stand in terms of needing help in the way of manpower and vehicles to accomplish this on Monday the 17th.
