M.A.R.S. is wet and wild.

You might, after all this time, think bath day here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary is just another routine day. No way we all say!  This was especially true for our very own Mr. Stubbs who just could not get enough today.  He even improvised using his own bowl when we were busy hosing down the rest of the crew here at M.A.R.S.   IMG_0202

Linda, Jane and I just kept taking turns with the hose, going all around the outside visitor area where the birds come for their outside time and baths. All the avians just kept asking for more, except for Jakers of course. He just puts up with it because he knows he has to do so. Then he gets IMG_0188once again to go up his favorite tree and dry off in the midday sun.

So if you think bath day here at our exotic bird rescue is ever routine or dull, then you haven’t visited on one of these days. Plan a visit on one of our open days. (We post schedule updates on our facebook page). Wed. is usually designated bath day. We hope you too have regularly scheduled bath days for your feathered family members. Please when you come to M.A.R.S. remember donations from all of you at any time helps us to continue helping all of them. IMG_0200Just one more for you. Where there is  Mr. Stubbs, Big Bird is always somewhere near by.

Pumpkin patch, location update and pics.

Just some additional clarification on the location information for any of us who are directionaly challenged. I apparently was when I went for a preview yesterday morning. I did not even see this as I was for some reason staring at the other side of the road as I passed byIMG_0143.

I soon realized that the pumpkin patch was North of Aurora Rd, on Wickham on the East side of the road, just to the North of Gatto’s Tire.  Well. the amount of pumpkins Wade brought in for the  Flutie Foundation is just perfect with assorted varieties for purchase to suit all your creative endeavors, and of course, your perfect for carving Halloween jack- o- lantern.

Remember these will last throught out to the Thanksgiving Holiday season, so your decorating twice for the price, its a win win purchase for all. thanks for reading.

What is this? Art imitating life? Toooooooooo funny.

IMG_0115Today was all about sprucing up the outside visitor area here at our exotic parrot rescue, M.A.R.S.

I was going about my task of  carefully placing some very colorful artsy pieces,  all  purchased from a recent estate sale and by chance glanced upward. Paco and Woody  were high up on their favorite perch preening each other and enjoying some out of the aviary sunshine time. I always get them out if I am on property, because they simply protest to much if I do not do so.  I soon laughed and realized, if this isn’t life imitating art, or art imitating life however one should say it , I  don’t know what is.

Obviously with all the colorful parrots we have here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, we are fortunate enough to be surrounded every day by a rainbow of color. But hey, a little more added here and there never hurts. It just adds to the ambience of our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S.

Come and visit on one of our open to the public days. Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, unless a special event is scheduled off property. Check for updates on our facebook.com/marsparrots page.

Toys are great, dog toys, kids toys, bird toys, oh my!!!

IMG_0528For most of us who are lucky enough to have feathered members in our families, we learned out of necessity, how to be practicle in coming up with creative ways to keep them entertained. One of the biggest challenges can be teaching your pet bird how to be happy and occupied on its’ own where you are not the main source of all their focus.

Over time here at M.A.R.S., learning how so many different species of birds can and do love to play with items presented to them has been a valuable learning lesson.

In the basket on the side you see items we frequently gather from yard sales, garage sales, Estate sales etc. you get the idea. Yes you have to be smart about what you pic out. No beenie babies or anything with very small injestible parts. Cloth eyes versus button eyes is a good example. Legos, wood blocks, disgarded dog toys also good, ( yes we wash all, and soak if necessary). You get the idea.

When we as humans realize that as avians in a pet situation,  they have the ability to learn to entertain themselves, all our our lives can be enriched. Which is why my next follow up blog will be about Birdy Boot Camp.

We thank you for reading this blog and hope to see your comments posted with your thoughts and ideas on this subject, and please share any good toy ideas you might have with us. We are always learning and practicle hands on experience is just simply the best kind of all.

Please remember a donation to our cause helps us to continue helping all of them to become the amazing avians that they can be. We have  at our Parrot Rescue here in Florida for adoption some very interesting characters to be sure. We also have some permanent residents you will enjoy meeting when you visit Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary also known as M.A.R.S..
