Happy beaks for the holidays, time to fill up the toy tree.

IMG_0397 Time once again to fill up the Christmas tree with toys galore for all the parrots who reside here at our exotic bird rescue. Located in Melbourne Beach Florida, Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary better known as M.A.R.S. for the short version is asking all of you to participate in filling up the tree once again. This toy drive was so successful last year because of all of you who made it happen. M.A.R.S. hopes to fill the tree and have enough left over to last for three to possibly four months. Toys keep them happy and busy, and yes the best reason of all “QUIET”.

All monitary donations can be made right here on our website using credit cards and paypal. Of course the old fashion way of mailing a check works just as well, just not as fast. Once we have reached our goal of $500.00, please note our minimum wholesale order needs to be $300.00 to start, then we will order away and fill the tree for all to see.

Thank-you to all who participate in the making of the “Toy Tree” All of us both avian and human thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Yes to all that noticed this is a pic from last year, as I am still dealing with putting away our (over the top) yard sale remains, and well putting up the tree is very time consuming, any volunteers??

A fire in the fireplace a Sunday morning sermon on the radio.

Amazing morning here in Florida. To think our temperatures could go from almost 80 degrees yesterday afternoon, to a chilly 44 on this very crisp and clear Sunday Morning

We had a great day here at M.A.R.S. on Saturday. People we love to see, prior adopters, came for a visit, along with new possible adopters.  People from Atlanta, Orlando, Georgia and Louisiana visited too. We also took in a few boarders for those folks with plans to be away during New Years Eve celebrations.

Jane, Bill and I worked very hard to make sure all the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons, and all the rest of the avians who reside here at our exotic bird rescue had everything they needed for their cages to be clean and cozy. New boxes, good treats, wood to chew,  and a stuffed animal or two(thank-you Bill) for those who do not like to feel alone, like our Jakers for instance. Birdy boot camp attendee Shelby aka Sheldon is learning to cuddle a few stuffed animals too. The outside aviaries received an extra cleaning in lieu of the rains that were predicted to arrive early evening, but thankfully the stormy weather never came our way. The cold did.

So downstairs I went to start a fire. With my laptop, coffee and pumpkin bread in hand, brought by my friend Susan from Downtown Produce, a blog was my goal. The blog subject was eluding me. I turned on the radio for some soothing holiday music, and instead, a sermon from a local church filled my ears. I wanted to turn the dial,  but soon found the words  making me a bit teary eyed. The message was that if you have been scorned or put down by people in your past learn to trust again for they are not worth the time you gave to them. And if you need help in this life do not be afraid to ask for it and ask for it loud and with clarity.

We are asking all of you to please support, and donate to our cause and we are asking loud and with clarity. We need all of your support at this time to continue on with all the work we do here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Please Help us to Help all of those who come through our doors.

So as the saying on this 1925 fireplace so aptly states, let us all have a New Year filled with Love and cheer. From all of us to all of you.

RIP Angel Baby, you were such a girl.

In my own little corner located in the upstairs apartment I reside in here at M.A.R.S., I am looking out the window as the sun is rising.  I am temporarily blinded by the glow it exudes, while attempting to type a tribute to our Angel girl.  The sadness is overwhelming me.

I suppose you could say Angel is truly an Angel bird now. She had a life force and a glow all of her own and it made her such a special Cockatoo. Those that had the chance to know her would definitely agree with that. Others, and you know who you are, were just glad to keep her at arms distance, though still agreeing  she was a rather special female Umbrella.

Angel’s story is known by most who follow Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary our Florida parrot rescue M.A.R.S.. Her medical procedures were ongoing. Yet, in spite of  all her issues it was her desire to live her life so strong and with such joy that impressed us the most.  Sadly her strength finally gave out and she passed away peacefully in my arms.

Throughout all her medical procedures she gained additional time to find a happiness, borrowed time perhaps, but enjoyed so obviously by her every day she remained with us.

Angel will always be a part of our story here at M.A.R.S.. She definitely made her place among those Cockatoos whose names we will always remember with such joy and sadness.

All here at M.A.R.S., Angel above all would like to thank Dr. Jose Pepen at Aloha Animal Hospital for giving her every chance possible to be  here a bit longer with all of us.

We need more space and this is the place.

Malabar School House est. 1927

If you can, imagine a place, with the kind of space it takes for a successful bird sanctuary to thrive.

The space to allow the numbers of birds awaiting a place at M.A.R.S. to actually come and live and hopefully thrive and above all, to be available for adoption into an amazing new home, possibly one of yours.

Well here is a picture of the place, it has ample space, and property. On three sides it backs up to natural sanctuary. Preserved and wonderful.

Imagine a place that allows a rescue to become self generating, money always being the hardest commodity to come by. Now there is an idea for you to ponder.

Weekend events, special parties for donors and the curious to discover a world they never touched before. Dinners in the garden under the magnificent ficus tree, supervised walks in the surrounding sanctuary and on and on. Stretch your imagination and come up with ideas for us as well.

So here is the place. It has direct access not far from  I95. Picture a  billboard that invites those who are visiting or traveling to take a little side journey. To discover who we are and maybe  become a future adopter.

Is there anyone person or persons that can put enough faith into a plan that would last and be a safe haven for parrots. A place to visit and enjoy all the beauty of the natural sanctuary surroundings. A place where volunteers would want to come and be involved with all the goings on that will become a part of  M.A.R.S. on a daily weekly and monthly schedule.  A place where all visitors can enjoy hands on something they might have never experienced otherwise.

Help make this a reality, the price has never been lower then it is right now. The place is in amazingly great shape, Ipersonally know this as I do have experience in prior renovation, but this is move in ready with a few additions to the existing structures.

More later as we always say, the adventure that is M.A.R.S. continues…………………………

The ficus tree for Jakers of course
