Angel Baby, loving her second chance at life

Angel, if you were given a second chance at living longer would you?

Well fortunately for all of us here at M.A.R.S. parrot rescue, that decision was made for her by her previous owner, and another very caring person.

Angel, a female Umbrella Cockatoo, was set to be euthanized for medical reasons. Although we can at times understand this very difficult decision some owners have to face, that does not mean there might not be viable alternatives available to pursue.

Such was the case with Angel who had recurring prolapse. Please note the medical term, I am sure, is much more complicated.

Given the chance as an owner to be able to relinquish or surrender your bird to a rescue, and get the medical attention and care so desperately needed, would you do so?

Thankfully Angels’ previous owner made this decision, and what follows is Angels story and her life as a resident here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary, our Florida parrot rescue M.A.R.S.

Angel received a  series of procedures to correct her medical issue from something commonly called a purse string, to actually opening her up and attaching the excess internals to a spot under her rib cage.  All of these very successful, but not necessarily long term. Recently a simple external snip and a few stitches and all is better then ever for Angel.

Everyday Angel shows us how happy she is at our exotic bird rescue. She climbs trees, loves to be social, enjoys being spun around and enjoys what we call her diving show, where she counts to three and then falls into a diving  head on fall, of course while I am holding her tightly by her feet.  She loves to show off  and demands to be able to do so.

All who come visit our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. , should ask to meet our resident Angel. She will, I am sure be happy to give you a show, and tell you that she deserved a second chance at true happiness.

Please remember to support our cause with  monetary donations to help us help them and continue the work we do here at M.A.R.S.. Click on the donate button today!

French toast Friday.

On Friday, prior to making the C&J feed store run on Saturday,( a thank-you to all who made that happen), we had to improvise a bit in feeding all the exotic birds who reside here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. A lot of french bread had been left at our door, so what’s more bird approved then french toast.

A couple dozen eggs, vanilla, milk and of course cinnamon completes the mix, and voila, happy avians here at M.A.R.S..

Nothing says happy like a picture unfortunately the camera was not in my hand as a full plate of french toast was. However I did manage to snap Dakota a Harlequin Macaw enjoying hers. The Amazons andCockatoos were equally appreciative of the delicious treat. I tried it too, not bad!!!!!!!!

Remember when you adopt a bird from M.A.R.S. you better be good at making French toast.

Dakota saying yummy.

Once again we dodged the bullet, but cleanup goes on an on.

Tree debris everwwhereCages got washed downNeeded rearranged anyway

Every time we go through these end of summer storms we are amazed by the power of the wind and rains. We are equally grateful and amazed that we escaped the full force of a hurricane once again.

Monday as you can imagine was nothing short of a miracle, as all who volunteer here at M.A.R.S. were willing to lend lots of hands to the job of cleaning up.

All the aviary birds on Saturday and Sunday, though frequently getting wet, were making happy sounds. Food and boxes changed out at regular intervals to give them the idea that all was right in their world here at the parrot rescue. If they see calm in their caretakers, they remain calm. Of course some extra special treats never hurt. Bribery is a good thing.

So with that said, we will all get back to the daily running of Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. The care of the exotic birds who reside here will always be our highest priority.

We once again invite you to visit our Florida parrot rescue on any of our open days.  Come and interact with the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons and other species of our feathered friends. If you are considering adoption, this is by far the best hands on experience anywhere.

We sincerely hope you will all continue to support our cause with a donation, or consider becoming a M.A.R.S. member.  As always, we need all the help we can get.

In our bird land known as M.A.R.S., a feathered love story.

I thought I saw the new girl go under here.
There you are.
Privacy please, I'm hiding here.
Looks like I have a rival.
A little help here please.
Do we really want to fight or let her choose?

Hey, can a girl choose for herself? I choose...
You!!!

Black and White Night.

Pat, Linda, Lu and Vicky at Aloha. A Friay night adoption event that featured black and white kittens, black and white decor, and a few white birds from M.A.R.S., Cockatoos of course.

Adoption events are successful when public awareness is raised and some lucky kittens find new homes. Such was the case on this Friday evening event.

Thank-you to Aloha for inviting us. The setting was picture purrrrrrrrrrrrrfect!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
