Cockatoos

Jun 20 2013

Vacation time is here. M.A.R.S. Closed Days, June 22nd thru June 30th

Yes it is that ” hot time in the summer” once again. Just before our younger volunteers come aboard for the Summer months for their Bright Futures Credits and some just to get some hands on bird experience, and just help us out here at M.A.R.S.

We will be back to as regular of a schedule as we are capable of maintaining very soon. That being Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.

So as always we ask that you check with us via our facebook.com/marsparrots page for our updates. They are based on volunteer availability and yes the weather as our visitor area is an outside venue.

Hope to see a lot of you through out the Summer months. Looking forward.

Watermellon time. I would so rather have yours then mine.

Now looking at this series of photos, I realize these pics could have appeared in the exact opposite direction. Linda Rinecones-White captured the moment.

Big Bird preferring Mr. Stubbs piece of watermelon to her ownwatermellonwatermellon 2watermellon 3 succulent wedge placed right below the perch where she is sitting. Maybe it was to big for her. Or perhaps she thought his might be a better piece.

Either way, it was a beautiful Florida day to get outside to play and share a tasty sweet treat.

Thank-you again Diana for bringing the goodies from the local Farmers Market in Indialantic for all the parrots to enjoy here at our rescue known as M.A.R.S.

PLEASEEEEEEE!!!! Do things always have to come in threes????

Saturday at M.A.R.S. was a mix of good, bad, and just plain ouch!

Oh it started out ok, with the promise of a beautiful day for visitors and for the exotic birds who reside at our parrot rescue.

The preliminary property clean up, the setting out of outside water dishes and preperation of treats for the Macaws, Cockatoos.,Amazons and assorted other species who we have in our care here at M.A.R.S. all went well. Then……

First, I got bit really bad by Bryan a Cockatoo who was boarding with us. He was adopted from M.A.R.S.  by a family he really loves, he simply missed them and really wanted to go home.

Second Keiffer and Dusty both Toos, have decided they can no longer live in harmony together. Keiffer promptly went after Dusty and yes took a small chunk of Dustys’  toe. More on this at the end of the story.

Third, a small Senegal whose name turns out to be Snuggles,(he or she is not so snuggley), decided to fly out an open window (clipped secondary feathers) and we searched for a while till we got to busy to do so any more.

To recap all this. I easily bandaged my wound, no big deal. Had a very difficult time getting Dusty to stop bleeding but had great help with assisting nurses Jane and Dominique. Hey thanks guys his toe is fine this morning. Gave him an extra dose of love last night, always good medicine. I promised him Keiffer would be kept under closer watch too. As for the Senegal Snuggles, he flew back here while we had lots of visitors but would not come down from the bamboo till this morning, at you guessed it, sunrise.

So thank you St. Francis for seeing him through the night. And all of us here at M.A.R.S. wish all of you a very Happy Easter.
