Cockatoos

Dec 30 2012

A fire in the fireplace a Sunday morning sermon on the radio.

Amazing morning here in Florida. To think our temperatures could go from almost 80 degrees yesterday afternoon, to a chilly 44 on this very crisp and clear Sunday Morning

We had a great day here at M.A.R.S. on Saturday. People we love to see, prior adopters, came for a visit, along with new possible adopters.  People from Atlanta, Orlando, Georgia and Louisiana visited too. We also took in a few boarders for those folks with plans to be away during New Years Eve celebrations.

Jane, Bill and I worked very hard to make sure all the Cockatoos, Macaws, Amazons, and all the rest of the avians who reside here at our exotic bird rescue had everything they needed for their cages to be clean and cozy. New boxes, good treats, wood to chew,  and a stuffed animal or two(thank-you Bill) for those who do not like to feel alone, like our Jakers for instance. Birdy boot camp attendee Shelby aka Sheldon is learning to cuddle a few stuffed animals too. The outside aviaries received an extra cleaning in lieu of the rains that were predicted to arrive early evening, but thankfully the stormy weather never came our way. The cold did.

So downstairs I went to start a fire. With my laptop, coffee and pumpkin bread in hand, brought by my friend Susan from Downtown Produce, a blog was my goal. The blog subject was eluding me. I turned on the radio for some soothing holiday music, and instead, a sermon from a local church filled my ears. I wanted to turn the dial,  but soon found the words  making me a bit teary eyed. The message was that if you have been scorned or put down by people in your past learn to trust again for they are not worth the time you gave to them. And if you need help in this life do not be afraid to ask for it and ask for it loud and with clarity.

We are asking all of you to please support, and donate to our cause and we are asking loud and with clarity. We need all of your support at this time to continue on with all the work we do here at Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary. Please Help us to Help all of those who come through our doors.

So as the saying on this 1925 fireplace so aptly states, let us all have a New Year filled with Love and cheer. From all of us to all of you.

Wishing all a very Merry Christmas morning, M.A.R.S. style

How could I resist an early walk on the beach here in the hometown of Melbourne Beach where M.A.R.S. is located. It promised to be a picture perfect sunrise, so with camera in one hand and a wreath in the other I headed to the beach at the end of our street. Hoping to get the perfect sunrise picture to share with all of you.
While waiting I waked along the shore and  put the wreath down while I did so. Upon returning I realized that until the sun came up that might be a good start for my first morning pic.

I waited only a short while longer and this is the end result.

Merry Christmas from all of us here at M.A.R.S.

All toys are not created equal, artistically speaking that is.

Believe it or not, the toy you see pictured here was envisioned and assembled by a friend of M.A.R.S. named Bonnie.

The treasure trove of wooden objects used in creating this wooden masterpiece were all part of an Estate sale featured locally by Southern Trading Company.

The entire contents of the place was for sale and there were boxes and boxes of unfinished wooden items as you see pictured here.

Only through the eyes of a very creative person could all those parts and pieces turn into a bird toy such as this one pictured.

Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary wants to send out a big THANK-YOU to Bonnie. Please know that all the parrots that reside here at our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. will have a great time getting their beaks on a piece of this amazing creation. Of course pictures of this will appear in another blog in the near future.

We always ask you to remember a donation to our cause continues to help us to help all of them. Adoption is the only way to go. So many exotic birds, from Cockatoos and Macaws to Amazons and Conures and Quakers and so many other species are waiting in rescues all over the country for someone just like you to provide a loving home.

Visit our parrot rescue when you can but be sure to check our open days of operation posted on our Facebook.com/marsparrots page. Weather and volunteer ability are the deciding factors. You can also e-mail marsparrots@aol.com or use the contact form right here on our official site marsparrots.org.

Parrot Adoption in Florida and M.A.R.S.

Our Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. located in Florida, has achieved one very important goal. Getting the word out that Melbourne Avian Rescue Sanctuary is the number one place to consider when faced with the need to surrender your exotic bird.

However, we have yet to achieved our primary goal as the number one adoption destination in the state of Florida.  We have arranged great rates at a local B&B Windemere Inn, for those of you visiting from out of the area.

Our designated outback open area for meeting and greeting the birds available for adoption here at M.A.R.S., is literally an outside one stop adoption shop. You can interact with most all our adoptable exotic birds in comfortable and pleasant surroundings. We advise you to allow some time to get to know them. The choices you have will amaze you, so do not be in a rush.

As always, we ask that you check our open and available days as they are subject to weather conditions and volunteer availability. Updates are posted on our Florida Parrot Rescue M.A.R.S. Facebook page almost on a daily basis.

M.A.R.S. has attempted to keep Pet Finder and Adopt A Pet current, but finds it impossible to do so.  Meeting the Macaws, Cockatoos, Amazons, Quakers, and numerous other parrots available for adoption, is crucial to making a good match.  Remember, M.A.R.S. is a no fault bird rescue sanctuary. If at first you don’t succeed with your choice of exotic try again. But make the decision to adopt.

If  you need to schedule an appointment, contact Lu by direct e-mail, marsparrots@aol.com.

M.A.R.S.’ future and the future of all the exotic birds that come into this rescue is in all of our hands. Please make the decision today to make a donation and support our cause.  PayPal, Network for Good, matching donations from your company of employment and right here by hitting our Donate button. Thank-you.
